The Dandy of emptiness - EM Cioran

Cioran, the "Dandy of the void, in addition to the Stoics themselves as incurable liver men act" (Bernard-Henri Lévy), was one of the most influential thinkers of the 20 culture-critical Century. His contradictory life has been reconstructed never so detailed as in this biography of Bernd Mattheus. In sometimes painfully close to observations of the suicide-theoretician, he also sheds light on the previously little-known before his emigration to France. Emil Cioran

M., born in 1911 in Sibiu, Romania (Sibiu), studied at the University of Bucharest, where he closed with Mircea Eliade and Eugene Ionesco a lifelong friendship. After a long stay in Berlin, he emigrated to Paris in 1937 and since that time, he writes in French. The author of stylistically brilliant Aphorisms and essays, the most pessimistic character excited to finally published in 1949 essay "theory of collapse" quite a stir. The book, which made him internationally famous, was translated into German by Paul Celan and established his reputation as a relentless skeptic. Here are many more uncompromising works such as "syllogisms of bitterness" or "The creation failed." Until the late 1980s, remains precarious financial situation Cioran, 1995 death of the aristocrat of the doubt and lucidity as prominent thinkers in Paris.

This is the most thorough biography Cioran overall presentation of Life and work of this exceptional thinker. Bernd Mattheus succeed not only an accurate reconstruction of Cioran's life, but also a stunning revival of "according to Kierkegaard single thinker of rank, who made insight irrevocably, that none may despair for safe methods." (Peter Sloterdijk)

Bernd Mattheus is the author of the most comprehensive biography Georges Bataille (Bataille-"Thanatographie" in three parts), and thinking of a biography Antonin Artaud and his own answer to Cioran: "Violent Silence.

Bonjour Jan,
in the appendix (Word.doc) the promised short biography. Cut off at will (as you like it) the 2 Seiten. In my book is missing such a summary - and many others, soca.30 pictures, because the publisher wanted to save costs. Anyhow, this will be my "swan song", that my last book have been him. If you read it you will understand you. Such feats of strength thanks a nobody.
